The mission of the Women's Committee of Fine Arts of Mount Dora is to encourage the appreciation of music, art, drama, and dance in our community.
This information is taken from "Memories of Mount Dora and Lake County 1945-1981" by Dave Edgerton.
From 1951 to 1981, for 28 consecutive years, the Florida Symphony Orchestra performed annual concerts in Mount Dora sponsored by the Mount Dora Kiwanis. From 1977 to 1981, it seems the few remaining lovers of classical music in Kiwanis transferred their efforts to have concerts each year by the Florida Symphony in the Christian Home & Bible School auditorium for school children. The ladies of the Kiwanis who took over were called the Mount Dora Women's Committee of Fine Arts of Mount Dora. They declared, "the purpose of the WCFA is to encourage the appreciation and enrichment of music, arts, and dance in our community. Our fundraising activities through the year help to fund our scholarship program for the local students of the arts."
